Missouri's Statewide Health Information Exchange (Missouri Health Connection) Webinar August 10

July 21, 2011 - While Missouri health care professionals are working hard toward achieving meaningful use of electronic health records, efforts to create Missouri's statewide health information exchange (HIE) are also well under way. In the past few months, Missouri Health Connection (Missouri's designated entity to form our HIE) has hired initial staff, opened its statewide office and chosen its technical service provider.

Once the HIE is up and running, it will help providers meet meaningful use requirements, thus allowing providers to also secure monetary incentives that could represent nearly $400 million into the Missouri economy. Other benefits to providers will include, but are not limited to, increasing efficiency, saving money, improving coordination of care, and reducing preventable medical errors.

On Wednesday, August 10, the Missouri Health Information Technology Assistance Center will present at 11:30 am, a one-hour Webinar/Audio Conference on Missouri Health Connection. Raul Recarey, president, Missouri Health Connection, will give an overview of Missouri's HIE organization, how the HIE will work, what are the next steps for Missouri, and will also address your questions.

Missouri Health Connection is Missouri's state-designated entity to oversee the development of a statewide health information exchange that will ensure patients, providers, physicians, hospitals and other health care organizations have access to critical medical record information in order to improve patient care and public health. EHR Success Stories

The devastating tornado that swept through Joplin, Missouri on May 22 completely destroyed a number of physician offices, including that of Tracy Godfrey, MD, a Family Practitioner with the Family Health Center of Joplin. But thanks to electronic health records, Godfrey had access to all of her patients' information, and in less than three days after the catastrophe, the practice was able to reopen its doors at a temporary location.
